Description
Asector 40 mg contains Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by significantly reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), where stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus, causing heartburn and irritation. It is also used to treat and prevent gastric and duodenal ulcers, including those caused by prolonged use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and in conditions like Zollinger–Ellison syndrome that involve excessive acid production. The gastro-resistant formulation ensures that the medication passes through the stomach and is released in the intestine for optimal effectiveness. Asector is usually taken before meals, and while it is generally well tolerated, some individuals may experience mild side effects such as headache, stomach discomfort, or diarrhea. Long-term use should be monitored by a healthcare professional due to potential risks like nutrient deficiencies or bone-related issues.
